Department of New Yorker Verification City of New York
Track 2 · Verification by Experience

You weren't born here. Prove you became a New Yorker.

Track 1 verifies New Yorkers by origin. Track 2 is for everyone else: the ones who arrived, stayed, paid for it, and became part of what makes this city so special. Answer honestly. The Department keeps score.

This is a petition, not a quiz. Check only what is true. A Verifier reads every file by hand; the running tally on the right is the Department's, for its own use, and it is watching three things above all — how long you have been here, how well you know the ground, and what the city has cost you. Each has a floor you must clear on its own; points elsewhere will not carry you past it.

The petitioner

Tell us who is applying. The Department addresses everyone formally and remembers everything.

A head-and-shoulders photo for your ID card. JPEG or PNG, up to 20 MB. This is the only document Track 2 asks of you.

In your own words

The Department reads these. They are not scored by the instrument, but a Verifier weighs them.

At least a few sentences; the more specific, the better.

Optional.

Self-reported; spot-checked, not enforced.

Application received. Your petition for verification by experience has entered the queue. A Verifier will review it in the order received, the City being large and the Department being busy. You will hear from us by email. Do not write to ask where you are in line. You are exactly where you are in line.
